Data Dive Security

No need to worry about sensitive data with Data Dives. Security has been designed to only show aggregated information, meaning that users will only see compiled data, not individual records.

Additionally, 3 levels of access are available with approval. These levels can be seen in the graphic below.

WUSM Security Scenario:

A staff member works at WUSM in a particular division such as Neurology, Radiology, or Pediatrics. Here is how her access to the data within Data Dives would look at each of the 3 access levels:

All Access

  • All aggregated university data
  • Requires approval from a supervisor plus a data steward

School Level Access

  • All aggregated Med School data
  • Requires approval from a supervisor

Division Level Access

  • Aggregated Med School data only for her area (i.e., Neurology or Radiology)
    • This means that even if she is in a sub-area like Neurology > Hope Center, she will still get all of the aggregated Neurology data
  • Requires approval from a supervisor
Danforth Security Scenario:

A staff member works at Olin Business School in a particular division such as Graduate Business Programs. Here is how his access to the data within Data Dives would look at each of the 3 access levels:

All Access

  • All aggregated university data
  • Requires approval from a supervisor plus a data steward

School Level Access

  • All aggregated Olin data
  • Requires approval from a supervisor

Division Level Access

  • Aggregated data only for his area (i.e., Olin Graduate Business Programs)
    • This means that even if he is in a sub-area such as Graduate Exchange Programs, he will still get all of the aggregated Olin Graduate Business Programs data
  • Requires approval from a supervisor
