First Phase of Workday Student Data Now Available
WashU Data Management & Analytics has incorporated the first phase of student-related data into the WashU Data Warehouse. Additional phases will be released throughout 2025 and 2026, gradually increasing the scope of the analytics we will be able to provide.
The data currently in the warehouse has been pre-curated and is available as “packages” you can explore and analyze in the Cognos Analytics business intelligence tool.
How to Start Reporting on the Data
Please follow these instructions to request access to the new student data packages then explore our training options.
Is This Related to Student Sunrise/Workday Student?
Our Student Data Program is closely aligned with the Student Sunrise project (i.e., the migration of student tools and information to Workday Student), but our unique task is to integrate student data into the WashU Data Warehouse. Having this data in the warehouse allows us to analyze student-related information and make informed decisions.
What’s Included in the Available Student Data?
Course Section Definition*
Allows ad hoc reporting on course section details (e.g., capacity, enrollment, and waitlist data), along with configuration info (e.g., meeting patterns, instructional formats, and instructors)
Program of Study Definition*
Enables reporting on academic programs—including majors, minors, and degrees—and provides insight into program areas, academic units, and credential types
Waitlist Utilization
Includes daily snapshots of waitlist data—which allows for longitudinal analysis of trends across registration periods—and enables detailed reporting on course sections and waitlist activity
*While the Course Section Definition and Program of Study Definition datasets provide foundational registration data (e.g., section capacity, enrollment, and reserved capacity), they do not include details about individual students or their specific programs of study. These details and additional student attributes will be included in the second phase of the project launching this summer.
When Will Additional Data Be Available?
The chart below outlines when different types of data from Workday Student will be available in the data warehouse. The timing, phases, and data types were determined in collaboration with the program advisory group, colleagues from across the university focused on ensuring the project delivers meaningful value to our campus community.
