Our Data Stewardship Community

The progression of this strategic initiative relies on the dedication and collaboration of our colleagues across the institution. The breadth of WashU’s Data Governance Program is vast, and we continue to make strides towards data maturity every day!

At WashU, our Data Stewardship is aligned with a data domain then functional area(s) within this domain. A data domain is a logical alignment with an operational grouping of data, relating to a common purpose, object, or concept. Since data domains are aligned with data, they may be organized differently than our organizational structure.

WashU currently has eleven Data Domains, including Human Capital Management (HCM), Innovation, and Support & Administration. Data Domains are subdivided into functional areas to better share responsibilities and acknowledge the proper data experts. For example, the Human Capital Management (HCM) domain is divided into functional areas such as Benefits, Compensation, and Recruiting, among many others.

In summary, Data Stewardship holds the responsibility for how WashU’s data is structured by using Data Domains and Functional areas.
