What Does WashU’s Data-Informed Culture Mean to You?

A successful data governance program means changing how we interact with data and asking people to think and behave differently about how their data is created, accessed and used. While the ODG may be best known for creating institutional data glossaries, there is much more happening.

We are grateful for the partnership with our data stewardship community and their aid with creating policies, standards and guidelines for better data management, accessibility and accuracy. The ODG is busy documenting repeatable processes across departments and systems to achieve increased data efficiency and decrease data risk.

Together WashU is on a journey towards becoming a stronger data-informed culture. A culture that fully embraces the use of data in decision making and planning.

In a data-informed culture, we:

  • Treat data as an institutional asset.
  • Promote data to be widely available and accessible.
  • Focus on capturing, cleaning, and curating meaningful data across the university.
  • Foster an elevated level of data literacy.
  • Believe data helps everyone perform better.
